About Haytham Helmi
Haytham Helmi, M.D., MPH, CPH, is the assistant director of clinical research. Prior to joining the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, Dr. Helmi was a program manager and researcher at Mayo Clinic, also located in Jacksonville. Dr. Helmi received his medical degree through a joint international collaboration with the University of Manchester. He then continued his training in anatomic and surgical pathology, and in research as a postdoctoral fellow at Florida Hospital and Quest Diagnostics Labs. During this same time period, Dr. Helmi was pursuing a master’s degree in public health and community medicine, and followed up his master’s degree with a Mayo Clinic research fellowship. Dr. Helmi led Mayo Clinic’s Clinical Outcomes Research Program after his fellowship. This position involved collaboration with the translational and clinical trials office and completing training for more than 30 physicians interested in clinical outcomes research. He also held leadership roles in the office of diversity and inclusion.
Dr. Helmi’s research interests include patient safety, simulation and reducing disparities in health care through the evaluation and comparison of outcomes and value.
